Curio Blvd App — Privacy Policy
Curio Blvd — Privacy Policy Last updated: 15 August 2026
This policy covers the Curio Blvd mobile app and the services offered inside it. It does not cover purchases made on curioblvd.com.
1. Overview Curio Blvd is where you keep your family's history — recordings, photos, documents, recipes, your family tree, and the details your family would need in an emergency. Much of it is irreplaceable and some of it is deeply private. This policy explains plainly what we collect, where it goes, and what we never do with it.
The app is operated by Chelsey Brown LLC ("Curio Blvd", "we", "us", "our").
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — name, email address, phone number, and date of birth where you provide it. Your phone number also lets other members share their Curio with you.
- Your content — audio and video recordings, photos, scanned documents, written answers, notes, recipes, meaningful dates, family tree data and imported GEDCOM files, and Backup Planner entries.
- Family history details — names, dates, relationships and life events, including about relatives who are living or deceased.
- Support messages you send us.
Device permissions — each is used only for the feature it belongs to, and only while you are using it:
- Camera — to record video and scan photos or documents you choose to add.
- Microphone — only while a recording is actually in progress. We never listen in the background.
- Photo library — only the items you pick.
- Contacts — only when you choose someone to share with, so we can find them. Your address book is not uploaded or stored on our servers.
- Notifications — for reminders you turn on.
Collected automatically — basic device and app information, a device identifier for notifications, and technical logs used for security and fixing faults.
Purchases — memberships are bought through the Apple App Store. Apple processes the payment; we never see your card details. We receive confirmation that a subscription is active.
3. How we use it To provide the app and keep your content safe; to sync it across your devices; to let you share with people you choose; to run the features you ask for, including AI features; to send reminders you have enabled; to answer support requests; to detect abuse and secure accounts; and to meet legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your content for advertising, and we do not use it to train AI models.
4. AI features and who processes your content Some features send content off your device for processing, and only when you actively use them.
Photo Restore — the photo you choose is sent to our server and on to Replicate, an AI processing provider, which returns a restored image.
A recording you add as a voice sample for a recipe is sent to ElevenLabs, a voice provider, to create a synthetic version of that voice and read the recipe aloud. This happens only when you choose that option. A recording you add as a full recording of the recipe is never sent to them: it is stored with the rest of your media and played back exactly as you supplied it. Speech-to-text on a recording is performed by your own device.
These providers process this content to perform the task and return the result. We do not permit them to use your content to train their models. A recreated voice is always labelled as recreated, and is never presented as the real person.
You can ask us to delete a voice model created for you at any time by emailing support@curioblvd.com.
5. Face grouping and voice — sensitive data Some features analyse faces and voices, so we want to be exact about this.
- Face grouping — to group photos by who is in them, the app detects faces and computes a mathematical representation of each face on your device. These face templates stay on your device. They are not uploaded to our servers or shared with anyone. Deleting the app deletes them.
- Voice — recordings are stored with your other content. A voice model is only created from a recording you specifically add as a voice sample, and only so it can read that recipe aloud. A full recording of a recipe is played back as-is and never used to build a voice.
Depending on where you live, this may count as biometric information with additional legal protections. We treat it that way regardless. If you record or upload someone else's voice, you are responsible for having their permission — and if you create a synthetic version of a living person's voice, for having their consent.
6. Who else sees your information We share only what is necessary, and only with:
- People you choose — anyone you share a capsule, album, recipe, planner or tree with, and collaborators you invite.
- Amazon Web Services — hosting and file storage.
- Replicate and ElevenLabs — the AI processing described above.
- Google Firebase — push notifications.
- Apple — subscription purchases and validation.
- Legal — where we are required by law, or to protect someone's safety or our rights.
- A business transfer — if Curio Blvd is ever sold or merged, your information may transfer with it. We will tell you first, and this policy will continue to apply until you are notified otherwise.
We do not sell or rent your information to anyone, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
7. Where your information is stored Our application servers are located in Sweden (European Union). Uploaded media files are stored on Amazon S3 in the United States (Ohio). Our AI providers may process content in the United States or elsewhere.
This means your information crosses borders. Where we transfer personal data out of the UK or European Economic Area, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
8. Security We protect your information with encrypted connections (HTTPS), encryption of stored content, access controls and authentication. Backup Planner content is additionally protected by a passcode or Face ID that you set — we cannot recover that passcode, so if you lose it, that content may be permanently inaccessible.
No system is completely secure. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and the relevant regulator as the law requires.
9. How long we keep it We keep your content for as long as your account is active, because that is the point of the service. When you delete an item it is removed from your account, and it ages out of routine backups within 90 days. When you delete your account we remove your personal information and content within 30 days, apart from anything we must keep by law and limited security logs.
10. Deleting your account You can request deletion at any time in the app or by emailing support@curioblvd.com. Deletion removes your account, your content and any voice model created for you. It cannot be undone, so export anything you want to keep first. Content you shared that someone else already saved may remain with them.
11. Children Curio Blvd is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. Families do record children as part of family history — if you upload content about a child, you are responsible for having the right to do so. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Your rights Wherever you live, you may ask us to: access the personal information we hold about you; correct it; delete it; export your content; or withdraw a consent you gave. We will not treat you differently for exercising these rights.
If you are in the EEA or UK, you also have the right to object to or restrict certain processing, and to complain to your local data protection authority. If you are in California, we confirm we do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA.
To make a request, email support@curioblvd.com. We respond within 30 days.
13. Changes to this policy We may update this policy. If a change is significant we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The "last updated" date above always reflects the current version.
